Tasbeeh, which means worship, is a method for Muslim prayers. It is usually recited aloud in a prayerful manner to Allah, who is regarded as the finisher of prayer. The ritual of reciting the verses of Tasyih and Zafar begins when the congregants are assembled for prayer. A prayer tasbih will be used in conjunction with the obligatory prayer, Maqta Rabbani. This shows that tasbih does not exist merely as an act of worship, but is rather an expression of ritual.
Tawhid and Isha are believed to be interrelated, as is evident from the term Muslim Prayer Beads (tasbih) itself. Both of them are forms of Islamic religious ritual, and both are recited in a prayerful manner as part of a routine prayer. However, tasbih does not incorporate the recitations of Surahs (Koran verses) as a part of this routine, nor does it incorporate any type of mulch (moslem congregational prayer).
The recitation of Surahs or sacred verses is compulsory, as is done with many of the Islamic rituals. The recitation of Surahs is intended to bring the soul of the worshipper to God, thereby bringing him closer to his Lord. In most cases, when the ritual of tasbih has been completed, the reciter turns his face towards Mecca, where he recites the final verses of Tawhid or God’s Prayer, while other worshipers wait for the final announcement of the prayer. In some places, the prayer is recited to the congregation; in others, the reciter faces the qibla — the direction towards which the ritual is being performed. The ritual of tasbih has also been known to finish a longer Muslim prayer, such as Fasting at Makkah.
The term tasbih, which means “surrender to God”, was used by the early Muslims to describe their submission to God. They understood that their Lord was Most High, and they were His servants. Because of this, tasbih was used to call on Muslims to turn to God in humility, by humbling themselves before Him. Thus, the hadith teaches us that tasbih means “acceptance of God”. Thus tasbih has much meaning for the followers of Islam, and their relationship with God is important for them.
One of the functions of tasbih is to recite a Quran in the manner of prophet Muhammed. Recitation of this Quran is one of the ways of calling on Allah to guide and help. Furthermore, it also covers the other duties that are incumbent upon Muslims, such as the five daily prayers. In order for one to recite tasbeeh beads in prayer, certain conditions must be met. The conditions that are necessary for tasbih to be recited Allahu Akbar are as follows: first, one must be a Muslim; second, one must make du’a; third, one must listen and obey; fourth, one must see and hear the commands of the prophet.
The conditions mentioned above allow us to deduce that tasbih prayer is recited for the purpose of obeying the prophet, for the knowledge and hearing of the words of the prophet, for the guidance of people, and for the obedience of one’s religion. In essence, tasbih here means “obedience to the prophet”. Another condition required of a Muslim when he/she recites tasbih is that he/she must always face Mecca. The reason behind this is that Mecca is the place of Eid and one should fast there, as it is mentioned in the sacred book, the Shariah. Therefore, if one is not able to visit Mecca regularly, then he/she may not be able to fast on the day of Eid.
